About Us

Background

Welcome to Edge FM…

Edge FM… there’s nothing else really quite like us. We have done several live events, saw through the strange times of the 2020 Covid pandemic and we were the voice of reason during the Go North West strike – which saw our listening figures skyrocket.

We specialise in all things high quality audio/music, events within the transport sector and beyond, with a focus of quality before profit. At times, we also aren’t scared to push the boundaries of what’s possible whether this be our content material or technical systems we have to deliver our programming.

Our journey

Edge FM was formed early to mid 2020. Take a look at what we’ve done since then.

Alderley Edge Studio (Early – Mid 2020)

In the uncertain times that were 2020, we had our very first studio on the infamous London Road in Alderley Edge. This is where the Edge FM brand was ultimately born, with an original focus of the Alderley Edge/Wilmslow area, however we later refocused the station to the transport/engineering industry.

Doncaster Studio (Late 2020)

To better suit the locality of our presenters, we replaced the Alderley Edge studio with a facility in Doncaster – an ex home recording studio, just off the motorway in Doncaster. We only used this location for a brief period to meet specific short term requirements.

Great Harwood Studio (Early 2021 – Present)

With specific storage and office requirements, we currently work with Town & District Transport Trust where our fixed office/storage/studio location is based. We also operate a full PA system in the shed building to broadcast Edge FM throughout the building, for background music and announcements.

Extending the studio to a remote operation (Mid to late 2022)

For years we used various systems – largely custom built, but we could never get it quite right to achieve a truly remote operation that was the same quality as at the studio (never mind superior which is what we always wanted). However, this all changed following a huge reinvestment and redevelopment of our ICT system, using virtual desktop infrastructure. This saw Garjo’s Sunday Brunch join Edge FM, using a remote broadcasting/production system that was more agile and reliable than anything we had ever seen. This extended our studio into any location remotely, with the same quality, but with minimal investment in hardware for the presenter – using a “bring your own device” approach. This system was a proven gamechanger for us, yet very secure at the same time.
